Trans-boundary NGO Master Planning of the Lower Jordan River Basin (LJR)

The project contributes to understanding the planning needs for the LJR by publishing the “Friends of the Earth Middle East (FoEME) Master Plan: A Vision for the Lower Jordan River”, the first ever trans-boundary integrated NGO master plan for the specific Basin. It also supports the advancement of political will for adopting a regional approach to IWRM among key Palestinian, Jordanian and Israeli figures.

  • Following the release of FOEME’s Master Plan for the Jordan River Inception Report in January 2013 data for the baseline report, set to be released in July 2013, have been collected and updated.  A workshop was held in May by the full consultancy team, including team members from the Netherlands, Jordan, Palestine and Israel to consolidate data from the national to the basin level and identify gaps in the baseline report.

Forthcoming activities:

  • FoEME and its consortium partners will be presenting the project at the upcoming World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden, September 1-6, 2013.  The team will be hosting a special SIWI-FoEME Side-Event entitled “Politics and Pragmatism in Transboundary Water Management” and participating in a workshop entitled “Transboundary Water Cooperation, Internal and External Factors” in addition to holding a SWIM Consortium Steering Committee Meeting and  Press Conference to update on the master planning effort.
