Contributing to the participatory irrigation management process in Jordan and Tunisia

In collaboration with the National partners and stakeholders in Jordan and Tunisia SWIM-SM has conducted a 2-day self-evaluation workshop (on 15-16 September in Jordan and 29-30 September in Tunisia) to evaluate the status of their Participatory Irrigation Management / Irrigation Management Transfer (PIM/IMT) process based on the results of applying the new monitoring and evaluation system (MONEVAS) that was developed by SWIM-SM and installed in selected pilot areas in the two countries.

The evaluation was based on the analysis of the results emanating from the entry of real data and information into the system – data entry for the national, regional and local levels.

ON-GOING AND PLANNED ACTIVITIES

On-line course on Natural Wastewater Treatment Systems

The online course is expected to start in December 2014 (English version) and to last for a period of 3 months. It aims at building the capacity of water practitioners primarily in charge of selection, design, and operation of wastewater treatment plants from ministries, municipalities, agencies, establishments, councils, and regulatory authorities working in the field of wastewater.

Natural systems are considered a suitable solution for the lack of sewage treatment in rural and remote areas due to their low cost and ease of operation and maintenance.

The course is organized in partnership with UNESCO-IHE.

Regional workshop on the M&E system to monitor and evaluate the Participatory Irrigation Management (PIM) & Irrigation Management Transfer (IMT) Process in the South Mediterranean Countries (17-18 November 2014, Athens – Greece)

The Regional workshop aims to introduce the M&E system and the lessons learnt from the pilot implementation to the SWIM Partner Countries, the donors’ community and regional organisations actively involved in PIM and IMT, in order to identify recommendations for future actions including those needed to sustain the system and its application in the region and replicate the efforts in other countries.
