Jordan
 
- The construction of the Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) in Moqablane, at the premises of the Public Security Directorate (PSD) is progressing well. Civil work is almost finished and the facility will soon be connected to the inlet structure. The test phase is scheduled to be from May 15th – June 15th 2014. A visibility concept for the information center on-site has been prepared and presented to the technical committee.
 
- After launching a tender for the study covering all aspects related to the reuse of treated wastewater at the Jordanian pilot site the technical committee selected the Jordanian NGO MIRRA to run the study. A reuse plan and irrigation scheme with special regards to the plant/crop requirements as well as specific climatic conditions and the soil composition will be developed. Further deliverables include the development of safety protection measures and impact monitoring, a user manual for the PSD-staff, customized teaching and training material and 1-2 day training courses for the staff.

Egypt

The tender for the construction works of the pilot site is scheduled for June 2014 and the beginning of construction works of the pilot site for October 2014.  Currently another tender is conducted by the Egyptian team in order to nominate a partner who will be in charge of preparing all needed documents for the tendering process of the construction works as well as the general supervision.

Morocco

Training sessions for local women from Ait Adir village(pilot site) have been conducted. Moreover, the local steering committee visited the Ecosan pilot project in DaytIfrah which is implemented by GIZ AGIRE. The aim of this site-visit was to inform the SWIM-project partners about the Ecosan technology and its relevance for local communities without access to a sewage network. TORs and relevant documents related to the construction works of the Moroccan pilot site are about to be finalized.

 
Tunisia

- Based on the results of the baseline assessment study in Tunisia various training measures in the field of water quality management and safety precautions for the reuse of treated wastewater for counterpart staff in the pilot area of Medenine Governorate were identified. A training plan was developed and two local training courses on water quality management for counterpart staff in Medinine have been conducted. Moreover, after tendering procedures, a contract for delivering the needed lab equipment has been signed while the tender documents for the construction of a small-scale pilot site based on slow sand filtration has been finalized. This activity will also include the development of an IT-platform and an environmental monitoring system. The tender for construction works on the pilot site are expected to start soon.

- An EU monitoring mission visited the SWIM Sustain Water MED team and its counterparts on March 31st. The mission consisted of delegates from the EU Delegation to Egypt, the Jordan-based GIZ Coordinator of the Project as well as various Tunisian counterparts.

 

Regional activities

- Based on the results of the 3rd regional meeting in Berlin, which was held from 5th till 6th of December 2013, a monitoring and impact assessment plan has been developed aiming at the assessing the socio-economic and environmental impacts of the pilot activities and was then distributed to the partners for comments.

- The first announcement of the SWIM Sustain Water MED conference to be held in Cairo from 1st - 2nd of December 2014 has been circulated.

- The 3rd regional training course on water quality management and environmental impact to be held in Djerba, Tunisia from 12th till 16th of Mai 2014 has been announced

- The 4th SWIM Sustain Water MED regional meeting to be held in Rabat, Morocco from 16th – 17th of June 2014 was announced.
