SWIM- Support Mechanism


Implemented activities

  • The online course on natural Wastewater Treatment Systems was successfully concluded in September. For more information click here
  • A Study tour on wastewater management using natural treatment systems in rural areas was organized from 27 to 30 of July in Sicily, Italy. For the material click here
  • A National training in Tunisia and sub-regional training in Jordan were conducted on the refined version of the Monitoring and Evaluation system (MONEVA) application that was elaborated in 2014 by SWIM-SM in relation to Participatory Irrigation Management / Irrigation Management Transfer (PIM/IMT). The trainings also presented the procedures that were developed by SWIM-SM for data collection and processing in order to enable the utilization of the MONEVA. The training took place on 27-30 July in Tunisia and between 2 and 5 August 2015 in Jordan. For the material of the training in Jordan click here and for Tunisia here.

SWIM – ACLIMAS

Adaptation to Climate Change of the Mediterranean Agricultural Systems 

Implemented activities

  • The project made a presentation concerning climate change impacts and adaptation options in the Mediterranean region during a workshop organized in the framework of the EXPO Milano (Padiglione ITALIA on 1 July 2015) entitled “Climate change, water scarcity and sustainable use of resources in agriculture”.

SWIM – Sustain Water MED

Network of demonstration activities for sustainable integrated wastewater treatment and reuse in the Mediterranean countries

Implemented and planned activities

  • The Compendium for environmental and socio-economic impact in the partner countries is almost completed and will be finalized in October 2015.
  • All construction works and installation of the laboratory equipment and IT platform in the Tunisian demonstration site are completed and the take-over by responsible authorities is scheduled for October 2015. Moreover, the testing phase is also completed and laboratory results show that the treated wastewater quality meets the Tunisian standards. The ONAS staff was also trained in wastewater analyses and in the use of the laboratory equipment delivered by the project.
  • The construction of the pilot plant Egypt will start in September 2015 and last until March 2016.

Water Harvesting and Agricultural techniques in Dry lands: an Integrated and Sustainable Model in MAghreb Regions

Implemented activities

  • Opening and evaluation of tender offers for artificial recharge works in Algeria and Tunisia.
  • Organization of a South/South exchange activity in Biskra, Algeria.
  • Manuscript submission to SPIE Remote Sensing Conference (Toulouse, France, 21 - 24 September 2015): Diachronic analysis of salt-affected areas using remote sensing techniques: the case study of Biskra area (Algeria)
  • Preparation of a long-abstract to be submitted for the participation in the ASITA Conference (Milano, Italy, 29-30 September - 1 October 2015) and preparation of 2 posters to be presented at the AQUA2015-IAH Congress, (Rome, 13-18 September 2015)

  • Participation in the AQUA 2015-IAH Congress, (13-18 September, Rome - Italy)
  • Participation in the SPIE Remote Sensing Conference, (21-24 September, Toulouse, France)
  • South/South exchange activity (27 September – 1 October, Biskra – Algeria)
  • Participation in the ASITA Conference, (29-30 September – 1 October, Milan – Italy)
  • Participation in the 26th European Regional Conference of ICID «Innovate to improve irrigation performance”, organized by the French Association for Water, Irrigation and Drainage (AFEID), and held in the cycle of the 66th International Executive Council (IEC) Meeting (11-16 October)
  • Training on agro-meteorology to be held at the Institut des Régions Arides (IRA) headquarters (26-30 October)
