Now available online:

  • SWIM-SM, in collaboration with the EU-funded MeHSIP project, have carried out a Verification and Validation of Adequacy & Efficiency of Operation of wastewater treatment plants in Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia. The outcomes of this exercise are available in the following languages:

SWIM – All Across the Jordan

Trans-boundary NGO Master Planning of the Lower Jordan River Basin

On-going and planned activities:

The project is currently proceeding the comments received by participants in the International Conference on Sustainable Development in the Jordan Valley (10-12 November 2014)

Two National Workshops, one  in Jordan and another in Palestine, are planned in April (respective provisional dates are 1 and 6 April 2015) to discuss and present the National Master Plans.

Innovative Means to Protect Water Resources in the Mediterranean Coastal Areas through Re-injection of Treated Water

Planned activities

Technical and Hydrological Surveys

February-March:

Development of a local 3-dimensional model for Nobaria (Egypt) using:

-  the CODESA model  (a computer program that simulates fluid movement and the transport of dissolved substances in a subsurface environment);

-  the Finite Elements Model (FEM) (a model wich describes the effective possibility to recharge the aquifer by treated wastewater (about 160 mc/day) from the Constructed Wetland as well as the evolution of dissolved salt in groundwater after the injection of  treated "freshwater").

 

Pilot Projects:

  • Upgrade of Waste Water Treatment Plant:

- Commission of the facilities (April 2015)

- Start up and operation (May 2015)

  • Irrigation System

- Project design execution(March 2015)

SWIM – Sustain Water MED

Network of demonstration activities for sustainable integrated wastewater treatment and reuse in the Mediterranean countries

Planned activities:

Jordan

  • A training course on Operation and Maintenance (O&M) will be organized on 15-16 Feb 2015 by the contractor of the wastewater treatment plant at the Public Security Directorate (PSD) with target group the PSD staff (operators, technicians).
  • Handing over the Wastewater Treatment Plant to the PSD will be done in March  2015.
  • An agreement between PSD and Great Amman Municipality for the reuse of the excess of treated wastewater will be signed in March 2015.
  • The study related to the impact mission regarding the safe use of treated wastewater at the PSD in Jordan will be finalized by mid of February 2015. All relevant documents will be uploaded to the website upon finalization of the entire mission

 

Tunisia

  • The construction work of the sand filter at the pilot plant in Medinine Tunisia will be finalized by the end of February 2015 and the IT platform implementation by the end of March 2015. This will be followed by two weeks test operation phase.
  • 2 days training on the operation and maintenance of the sand filter will be organized for ONAS staff during March 2015.

 

Morocco

  • The construction of the pilot plant in Dayet Ifrat in Morocco is progressing well and will be finalized by the end of April 2015.

 

Egypt

  • The tender of the pilot plant in Guzyera, Ismailia Governorate will be finalized in March 2015, and the construction will start in April 2015.

SWIM – WADIS-MAR

Water Harvesting and Agricultural techniques in Dry lands: an Integrated and Sustainable Model in MAghreb Regions

Planned activities (February-March 2015)

  • Meetings in Algeria with the water resources Ministry and the European delegation to discuss the financial and technical issues of the project.
  • Realisation of  6 further demonstrative sites in Megarine and Sidi Makhlouf (Tunisia):  Replicability of demonstrative agronomic activities to other  land owners.
  • Farmer assistance in irrigation scheduling and deficit irrigation practices in Tunisia.
  • Field monitoring for both irrigation techniques proposed and farmer method on peach and vineyard in Tunisia.
  • Discussion about replicability of activities in other 14 farms at Megarine and Sidi Makhlouf (Tunisia).
  • Publication of  the ToR’s for the lot 1 “ recharge system realisation  “and close publication of the 2nd lot “Realisation of piezometers for recharge monitoring” in Tunisia.
  • Development of  mathematical hydrogeological modeling aquifer of Wadi Biskra (Algeria)
  • Implementation of dissemination activities through a south-south exchange workshop in Algeria.
